A Few New Food Finds…

img41cFinding a new food product to try is like the adult equivalent to trick or treating.

Real whole foods never go out of style but we are constantly tempted with new products that line the shelves of grocery stores.

It has been some time since I have shared my finds so here they are….

Tekola Tea – It’s no secret I’m a big tea lover and even a little bit of an elitist when it comes to my favorite kinds.  Last week I had to pick up a few things at Bob’s neighborhood market and met the owners of Tekola Tea who were sampling both their bagged and loose-leaf tea.

I tried a few kinds and was very impressed with their whole line.  The loose leaf BOP (Broken Orange Pekoe) was especially good and their bagged ginger was tasty.

Ginger tea is recommended for those with GERD or reflux and for pregnant women with nausea and morning sickness.

And if you are a big tea lover my new favorite kitchen “appliance” as Jeffrey calls it is the Breville One Touch Tea Maker.  I don’t know if I would have splurged for this if it had not been a gift but after using it for the past month I can see it is worth the money.

Each pot is made with only 5 teaspoons of loose leaf tea for 1200 m. of water, which is put in a little basket that goes up and down to make the absolute perfect cup of tea.  It is programmable for black, green, white, herbal and oolong tea, which adjusts water temperature and time for brewing.  I feel like an infomercial but it really is fun and worth it if you drink a lot of tea.

Califa Unsweetened Almond Milk – made from just non-GMO almonds and water this is about as pure as it gets.  Great for smoothies and those who don’t drink milk and want an alternative.  It tastes much better than other brands in the carton and does not contain all the stabilizers found normally in almond milk.

Skinny Crisps – I’ve talked about Skinny Crisps before but they came out with a new fun flavor called The Whole Shebang.  I love the Plain Jane ones, but these have the same great flavor with quite a bit of pizazz since they have black and white sesame seeds, poppy seeds and a little garlic and onion taste.

Snip Chips – one of my clients brought in these tasty treats that have amazing ingredients.  My favorite is the Dill Pickle, which surprised me since I can count on both hands how many pickles I have a year.  They are organic, gluten-free, and made with only 3 ingredients plus the spices.

Ingredients:  parsnips, raw coconut, raw cashews,
apple cider vinegar, dill, garlic, lemon, chipotle, mustard seed, Himalayan crystal salt.

One handful is more than satisfying for a treat and has only a few carbs.

I’m off to the Naturals Foods Expo next month so stay tuned on more food finds to come!  These simple healthy treats can be a great alternative to regular snacks.  I welcome you bringing in or emailing me snacks to look at that are healthful with great ingredients.
