Metabolism, Diet and Disease
Monday, May 28, 2012 at 8:44PM This week there's a conference on Metabolism, Diet and Disease in DC looking at the relationship between insulin resistance and different disease states, particularly cancer.
Several top scientists including Gary Taubes and Richard Bergman are a few of the excellent speakers presenting information.
What happens when we consume diets high in starchy carbs, sugars that our bodies cannot handle? It spikes insulin levels which increase inflammation in the body. If this continues for a long enough period of time, a cyle of weight gain (particularly belly or visceral fat) increases and other medical problems such as high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.
In addition, high insulin levels trigger growth of tumors in the body leading to cancer cells.
Diet can REVERSE or obliterate this process.
Why wait? Eating a healthful diet of protein, non-man-made carbs such as fruits, veggies, nuts/seeds and healthy fats are key. If you are in the DC area consider this conference or looking at the research presented here.
